Alumni Day
August 11 celebrates the Anniversary of the opening of United States Penitentiary Alcatraz.
Along with the regular self-guided tour options and the cellhouse audio tour, numerous programs will be presented by former Alcatraz residents, correctional officers and their families, as well as former inmates. These Alcatraz “alumni” will present their personal stories of Alcatraz’s past through panel discussions, presentations, tours, and slide shows offered throughout the day.
A special fee of $2.00 is being added to each ticket sold to fund expenses connected with this special once-a-year event. If you wish to option out of paying this fee and not participate in the event, you can receive a refund of the special fee at the island gift shops.
